Installation Method #1 (Intended for light use, weights not to exceed 150 lbs.)
1. Once shower pan is in place and stud walls have been covered with a cement backer board (A), apply multipurpose thinset and screw one additional piece of backer board (B) 18"x17" to backer board (A) on either side of corner to receive seat [ see Diagram A ]. Do not damage shower pan.
2. Begin setting tile on backer board (b), stopping at point to receive seat (Approx. 17" from finished floor). Where backer board (b) overlaps backer board (A) leaving exposed edge, cover with appropriate trim.
3. Using a small trowel, liberally apply multipurpose thinset to backer board (A), backer board (B), and to edge of tile, where seat is to be installed, as shown in Diagram A.
4. Embed shower seat firmly in thinset and remove excess.
5. Continue with tile above shower seat and using silicone caulk, seal all edges where seat meets tile. This is very important as it provides a water barrier.
Installation method #2 (Intended for heavy use, weights in excess of 150 lbs.)
NOTE: This method incorporates the use of a concrete block to form a solid system of support for the entire seat.
1. Once the shower pan has been properly mudded, sloped and cured, place a mark approximately 17" above the finished floor height on the walls that will receive the seat, and begin tiling to this mark.
2. Bond two (2) concrete blocks to the mud floor with multipurpose thinset at a 45 degree angle to the corner. Fill the entire block with mortar [ see Diagram B ].
3. Using a level, prepare the concrete block to receive the seat by creating a level surface with the wall tiles used to support the rear of the seat.
4. Bond the shower seat to the concrete block and wall with multipurpose thinset at all points. Remove excess mortar.
5. Continue to tile above and around shower seat, and using silicone caulk, seal all edges where seat meets tile.
